Ashtanga Yoga

Sri K. Pattabhi Jois
Ashtanga is a flowing, vigorous and meditative yoga experience. It's taught with compassion and lightheartedness at Florence Yoga. Everyone is welcome.
Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional form of Hatha or movement-based yoga that is perhaps centuries old. It is the precursor to many modern forms of yoga taught today.
Following the yoga traditions originated in Mysore, India and taught there by the late Ashtanga Master Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the Ashtanga practice combines breath and movement (vinyasa) which links a specific posture sequence, along with deep breathing (ujayi), concentrated eye gazing (drishti) and internal energetic seals (bandhas). Together, these elements of Ashtanga create a purifying internal heat that helps improve circulation and endurance, creates a strong and healthy body, and enables the practitioner to develop a calm and balanced mind.
Our Ashtanga classes are accessible to students of all levels. Depending on your level of commitment to the practice, it will make you stronger and more flexible - and it will change your mind, the way you view the world, and what you believe is possible. It will change your ideas about your own limits, and your own potential as a human being.
We offer classes led by a teacher, and the more traditional Mysore style of practice (self practice with one-on-one teacher guidance.)
